MDL ISIS Draw

MDL ISIS Draw is a classic 2D chemical structure and reaction drawing application developed by MDL Information Systems, Inc. It enables chemists to sketch, annotate, and edit molecules and reactions with precise control over atoms, bonds, charges, stereochemistry, isotopes, and aromaticity. The software includes libraries of ring and functional group templates, reaction arrows and atom mapping tools, R-group/Markush capabilities, and query-atom features for substructure searching.

ISIS Draw uses MDL’s CTfile formats for data exchange, including Molfile, RXNfile, and SDfile, and integrates with the broader ISIS platform (such as ISIS/Base) and MDL Chime for web visualization. It supports clipboard/OLE transfer and export options suitable for technical reports and publications.

Widely adopted in academia and industry throughout the 1990s and 2000s, ISIS Draw helped establish standards for chemical drawing and data interchange and served as the predecessor to later products such as Symyx Draw and BIOVIA Draw.
